BASEBALL/SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Lady Rabbits edge rival Nocona, 19-18

SOFTBALL

BOWIE 19, NOCONA 18

BOWIE – Rylie Vieth laced a one-out single to center field, bringing Traycee Stewart home from second base as the game-winning run in a 19-18 victory for Bowie against rival Nocona in District 7-3A action Tuesday. It was the district opener for both teams.

Nocona had just tied the slugfest, 18-18, in the top of the seventh inning, scoring five runs. Avery Crutsinger came through with the biggest hit, getting a hard-hit groundball into left field for single that scored Skye Kirby as the tying run.

Tobie Cable led the Lady Indians at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a triple, five runs and six RBIs.

Vieth and Stephanie Allen each went 4 for 5 with three runs and five RBIs, leading Bowie at the plate. Allen had a double and home run, while Vieth hit a triple. Stewart was 2 for 3 with a home run, four runs and three RBIs.

WINDTHORST 18, PETROLIA 15

PETROLIA – Tara Tackett and Marisa Frazier each drove in two runs in the top of the seventh inning, accounting for a four-run rally that proved to be the difference in Windthorst’s 18-15 victory against Petrolia in District 9-2A action Tuesday. It was the first district game for both teams.

The Trojanettes trailed 15-14 entering the top of the seventh. Tackett came through with a one-out single, driving in Camryn Latham and Bree Kirk for a 16-15 lead.

Frazier provided some insurance runs with a two-out double to center, scoring Tackett and Eryn Pennartz.

Tackett returned to the pitcher’s circle and struck out the side to end the game. Despite an otherwise rough outing in the circle, Tackett finished with four runs and four RBIs at the plate. Pennartz was 4 for 5 with four runs and an RBI.

Morgan Bujack led the Lady Pirates, going 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs.
