Baseball: Vote in this week's poll for lohud's Player of the Week (May 9-15)

Eastchester's Chris Howard won a narrow race last week over Mamaroneck's Will Plunkett. Howard earned 43.7% of the vote to win the Player of the Week, while Plunkett pulled down 42.4% of the 35,246 votes cast.

Please consider the top performances from last week and vote on lohud.com for the most deserving player in this week's poll.

The poll will remain open until 12 p.m. Wednesday and allow readers to vote for the best performance. Candidates were chosen based on the recommendation of coaches and stats reported to The Journal News and lohud.com.

There will be a new Player of the Week poll each Monday throughout the season.

Tyler Castrataro and Joey Koch, Mahopac

These two Mahopac batters each slugged a pair of home runs last week. They also each had a double and a triple. Koch finished with five hits, three steals and eight RBI while Castrataro had four hits, four steals and five RBI. They combined to score nine runs.

John Gerfen, Brewster

The Cornell commit logged a whopping 16⅓ innings last week and went 1-0 with a no decision. He earned the latter after pitching into the 10th inning of Saturday's Class A outbracket game at Hen Hud, which Hen Hud won in 13 innings. All told, Gerfen struck out 23 batters in his two starts.

Jimmy Keenan, Iona Prep

The St. John's commit shut down Stepinac over six innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out nine in the win. He also went 7 for 11 with three home runs, three walks and seven RBI. Iona Prep went 5-0 in CHSAA action, including four pool-play games to determine playoff seeding.

Rohan Patel, Stepinac

The right-hander continued his strong junior season by pitching six strong innings in a win over Fordham Prep. He allowed just one run on five hits and struck out seven. Patel also went 5 for 13 with a double, two walks and three RBI at the plate.
