Baseball: Watertown Post 17 closes out weekend trip to Rapid City with two more losses

RAPID CITY — Watertown Post 17's American Legion Baseball team closed out a weekend against perennial power Rapid City Post 22 with 8-0 and 13-1 losses in a doubleheader on Sunday.

Post 17 went 0-4 on the trip and is now 3-7 on the season.

Rapid City led 1-0 in the opener before erupting for seven runs in the fifth and took control early in the second with a nine-run second inning.

Kolby Lacher and Trevon Rawdon had the lone hits for Post 17 in the opener. Jerod Cyrus took the loss.

Watertown's only hit in the second game was a double by Cyrus. Braedon Zaug suffered the loss.

Post 17 is slated to host Rapid City Post 320 Saturday and Sunday as part of the Watertown Baseball Association's Hall of Fame Weekend. Legion doubleheaders are scheduled for about 4 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Post 17 Junior Legion — The Post 17 Junior Legion closed out its trip to Rapid City with a 9-7 win over the Post 22 Expos on Sunday.

Austin Johnson had three hits and Spencer Wientjes and Hayden Ries each two for Watertown (3-3). Wientjes, who tripled, and Nash Berg each drove in three runs. Talan Jurgens got the win.

Watertown hosts Aberdeen at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Watertown Stadium.

Amateur Baseball

Brookings 5, Lake Norden 3 — The Brookings Cubs took the season-opening game on Sunday, plating two runs in the top of the first and leading the rest of the way.

Noel Burgos smacked three hits and joined Chase McDaniel with doubles.

Lake Norden's six-hit attack included two singles by Cameron Thue and a double apiece from Mitchell Noem and Isaac Rubendall. Jordon Johnson, the first of four Lakers' pitchers, was tagged with the loss.

Lake Norden hosts the Castlewood Ravens at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
