Bashes to backpack giveaways: 6 Bay County back-to-school events you don't want to miss

BAY COUNTY — Summer days are almost over for students, and groups and organizations across Bay County are helping students prepare for the school year.

From back-to-school bashes to backpack giveaways, here are six area events planned to lend a helping hand.

The BAJA Jeep Club

The Bay Area Jeep Association Jeep Club is sponsoring a community back-to-school supply drive from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Church, 4049 W. 23rd St. in Panama City. Organizers are asking for backpacks and school supplies for elementary and middle school children. Activities and entertainment will be provided for children and The Spice is Right food truck will be in attendance.

Calvary of Panama City

Calvary of Panama City, 1902 Wilson Ave., will host a back-to-school bash beginning at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 5. Backpacks will be given to the first 200 students who are accompanied by an adult. Other freebies will include haircuts, a prize wheel, hot dogs, chips, snow cones, games, face painting and an inflatable obstacle course for children.

NAACP of Bay County

The Bay County Branch of the NAACP will sponsor its back-to-school blastoff Aug. 6 to give away backpacks and school supplies. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oscar Patterson Academy, 1025 Redwood Ave. in Panama City. The organization plans to provide 300 children with backpacks stocked with two pencils, two pens, an eraser, a pencil case, a pencil sharpener, a glue stick and four crayons.

Gulfview United Methodist Church

Join Gulfview United Methodist Church, 245 Wisteria Lane in Panama City Beach, to celebrate the back-to-school season with a family fun day from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 7. Everyone is invited to enjoy free food, inflatables, a cake walk, cornhole, music, fellowship, prizes and more.

Bayou George Christian Church

Bayou George Christian Church, 7814 County 2301 in Panama City, will host a back-to-school bash from 3-7 p.m. Aug. 13. Bring the children out to enjoy free hot dogs, a water slide, and free backpacks for the first 100 children in attendance. Children must be present to receive school supplies.

Living Word

Living Word, 500 E. 19th St. in Panama City, will host a back-to-school bash Aug. 14 starting at 10 a.m., immediately following its morning worship service. Join church members for family fun and food with water slides and inflatables available for children.
