Duke’s Johnny Dawkins and Mike Krzyzewski, along with North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough are part of five who make up the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023, the organization announced Tuesday.

The induction ceremony will be on Aug. 30 in Chicago.

Here’s a look at the three, along with other inductees Herb Magee and Tom Konchalski.

Johnny Dawkins, Duke

Dawkins, the head coach at Central Florida, played for the Blue Devils from 1982 until 1986. At Duke, he scored 2,556 career points, was a two-time All-American and the Naismith National Player of the Year in 1986.

The 6-2 point guard averaged 20.2 points a game as a senior and was the 10th pick in the 1986 NBA draft, where he was taken by the Spurs.

He began his coaching career at Duke as an assistant under Krzyzewski in 1989, when he became the head coach at Stanford. He took over at UCF in 2016.

Tyler Hansbrough, UNC

The 6-9 center amassed 2,872 career points, the most in ACC history and 16th in NCAA Division I basketball. As a senior, Hansbrough helped lead the Tar Heels to an NCAA tournament title with a win over Michigan State.

He held UNC’s all-time rebounding record until this past season, and in 2008 was one of seven Tar Heels to have more than 1,000 rebounds. Hansbrough was National Player of the Year and ACC Player of the Year in 2008.

Hansbrough was taken 13th in the 2009 NBA draft by Indiana, where he played until 2013 before being traded to the Raptors.

Mike Krzyzewski, Duke

Krzyzewski spent 42 years coaching Duke before retiring in 2022 as the winningest coach in NCAA history with 1,202 wins.

Along the way, Coach K led his Blue Devils teams to five national titles, 13 final fours, 15 ACC tournament championships and 14 ACC regular season titles. He took Duke to the NCAA tournament 36 times and has won 101 games in the tournament.

He also helped lead Team USA to three Olympic gold medal wins in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Krzyzewski was a point guard and shooting guard at Army from 1966 until 1969. He started his coaching career in 1974 as an assistant under Bobby Knight at Indiana before heading back to Army as a head coach from 1975-1980.

Krzyzewski was initially inducted into college basketball hall of fame in 2006 as part of its first class.

Last week, the NBA announced it hired him as a special advisor to basketball operations.
