The Ozona High School girls basketball team came on strong in the second half en route to a 50-30 nondistrict win against Lake View at Ben Norton gym on Tuesday night.

Ozona improved to 9-3, while dropping Lake View to 3-7 under first-year head coach Steven Pinchback.

The Lady Lions were clinging to a 20-14 halftime advantage and they stretched it to 32-21 after three quarters. Ozona added 18 points in the fourth and held Lake View to nine.

Vale Garza and Claire Bean paced Ozona with 12 and nine points, respectively.

"We struggled at first defensively, but we changed it up and they did well," Ozona head coach Chad Myers said. "They helped on screens, they blocked out and ran the floor. We missed a lot of easy shots, but we're getting better as time goes.

"We've had a good year so far and we've played a lot of good teams. Lake View's good and they're well coached."

Mikaila Wagner had a game-high 14 points for Lake View, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Pinchback gave credit to the Lady Lions.

"They do a good job and they're very scrappy," the Maidens' new coach said. "I told them if we could get them out of their press, we'd have opportunities and we got them out of it...but we're still learning.

"I've just got to remind myself that it's a process. It wasn't good before I got here and that's all we're trying to do is get better one game at a time."
