Basketball roundup: Grand Ledge tops DeWitt, Mason wins holiday tourney

GRAND LEDGE 61, DEWITT 57

GRAND LEDGE — Teddy Williams did all his scoring in the second half while helping the Comets to a CAAC Blue victory over DeWitt. Williams had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead three players scoring in double figures for Grand Ledge. Carson Daly hit four 3s and had 13 points and Damon Ware added 10 points, including eight in the second half, for the Comets (4-1, 2-0). Bryce Kurncz had 28 points to lead DeWitt (2-2, 0-2).

LAKEWOOD 49, EASTERN 47

LAKE ODESSA -- Jayce Cusack led all scorers with 23 points to help the Vikings outlast Eastern for the close nonleague victory. Nathan Willette tallied 14 points and Blake Price and Montreal Reid tacked on six points each for Lakewood (3-3). Tavion Harden scored a team-high 18 points for the Quakers (2-4).

HOLT 67, JACKSON 60

HOLT — Donye Thomas had 25 points and seven rebounds and Isaiah Foster had 11 points and 10 assists for the Rams (2-3). Carter Bishop added 13 points and Nigel Gadson added 11 points for Holt.

MASON -- Luke Marlan tallied a team-high 23 points to push the Bulldogs to a win over Loy Norrix (3-2) in the championship game of the Mason Holiday Hoops Tournament. Cason Carswell picked up 16 points, Levi Stambaugh notched 12 points and Austin Stone added 11 for Mason (5-1) in its fifth straight victory.

SEXTON 50, PINCKNEY 45

MASON -- Freshman guard Keyshawn Summerville led the J-Dubbs with a team-high 15 points in their victory in the third-place game of the Mason Holiday Hoops tournament. Devon Smith Hodges chipped in 12 points for Sexton (3-5).

OKEMOS 61, WILLIAMSTON 48

OKEMOS -- Collin Alexander picked up a game-high 12 points for the Wolves in a nonleague home win over Williamston. Hudson Grienke notched 11 points and four assists and KJ Torbert tallied nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals for Okemos (5-0). Ben Smith and Hudson Hunt each scored a team-high nine points for the Hornets (1-5). JV score: Williamston 58, Okemos 54

RIVER ROUGE 75, WAVERLY 68

YPSILANTI -- Darrius Welch picked up a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors in a nonleague loss to River Rouge (3-1). Deunte Phifer notched 16 points, six rebounds and five blocks, Deonte Roberts scored 10 points and dished out six assists and Trey Miller added on 10 points for Waverly (4-2).

SARANAC 45, DELTON KELLOGG 37

SARANAC -- Levi Spiece finished with a team-high 10 points for the Red Hawks in a nonleague home win over Delton Kellogg (1-4). Cameron Cook, Isaiah Morgan and Jadeyn Trahan all chipped in eight points each for Saranac (1-3).

DURAND 58, OVID-ELSIE 52

ELSIE -- Clay Wittenberg notched a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds as the Marauders fell just short in a MMAC defeat to Durand (5-0, 4-0). Logan Thompson scored 16 points, Tryce Tokar tallied eight points and Braxton Stenger dished out seven assists and grabbed five rebounds for Ovid-Elsie (3-1, 2-1).

MOUNT PLEASANT 60, ALMA 57

ALMA — The Panthers rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take the lead before falling to Mount Pleasant in a non-conference contest. The Oilers (4-1) hit 9 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to hang on for the win. Michael Howey had 19 points and Sam Rosales added 11 points for Alma (2-2).

ST. LOUIS 48, MORRICE 38

ST. LOUIS -- Travis Farrow scored a team-high 16 points for the Orioles in a nonleague road defeat to St. Louis (2-3). Oliver Long chipped in seven points for Morrice (1-5).

GALESBURG-AUGUSTA 55, MAPLE VALLEY 43

VERMONTVILLE -- Chanse Courtney notched a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Lions in a nonleague loss to Galesburg-Augusta (3-1). Ayden Wilkes chipped in 10 points and dished out four assists fort Maple Valley (2-1).

ELSIE -- The Marauders went on a 28-9 run in the first half to secure a MMAC home win over Durand (4-4, 1-3). Ava Bates notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Hailee Dampbell scored nine points and Evalyn Cole added eight points for Ovid-Elsie (4-2, 3-0).

WEBBERVILLE 29, WHITMORE LAKE 19

WHITEMORE LAKE -- Ryleigh Nelson finished with a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to help guide the Spartans to a nonleague victory over Whitmore Lake (3-3). Kalista Matiyow scored eight points and Mackenzie Langham added five points and hauled in 14 rebounds for Webberville (4-3).

IONIA -- Melayna Braman picked up 11 points for the Bulldogs in a nonleague loss to Pewamo-Westphalia (3-2). Aubree White notched seven points, five rebounds and four steals and Alexias Daugherty added on seven points for Ionia (2-4).

OWOSSO 66, SHEPHERD 33

OWOSSO -- Danica Dwyer led all scorers with 20 points and snagged six steals for the Trojans in a nonleague victory over Shepherd (3-4). Skotti Ball-Duley scored 15 points, Lexi Hemker finished with nine points and four steals and Peyton Spicer tacked on seven points and pulled down 18 rebounds for Owosso (3-3).

CORUNNA 34, BRIDGEPORT 29

CORUNNA -- The Cavaliers went on a 12-4 run in the third quarter to propel them to a nonleague win over Bridgeport (2-3). Sydnie Gillett tallied a team-high 12 points, Jenna Bauman picked up eight points and Jorja Napier added six points for Corunna (4-2).

ST. LOUIS 46, MORRICE 39

Aubrey Rogers had 17 points and Makenzie Doerner added 12 points for the Orioles in their nonleague loss.
