Basketball Roundup: Rated Pierre teams sweep Watertown in ESD play

Pierre High School's rated boys and girls basketball teams each recorded Eastern South Dakota Conference wins over Watertown on Tuesday night.

At Watertown, third-rated Pierre's boys defeated Watertown 64-46. At Pierre, the fourth-rated Governors downed the Arrows 51-29.

The Arrow boys played even for much of the first half and were tied at 20-20 before the Governors closed the first half with an 11-2 run to take over. Pierre added to its lead with a 17-8 surge in the third period.

Ohio State football recruit Lincoln Kienholz led the Govs with 17 points. Benjamin Heisler added 15 points and Jackson Edman 11 points and eight rebounds. Pierre shot 65 percent (24 of 37) from the field and gained a 21-17 rebounding advantage.

Kohen Kranz drained four 3-pointers and led Watertown with 14 points. Dylon Rawdon and Caden Beauchamp added eight each and Dalton Baumberger six. Jake Olson contributed five rebounds. The Arrows shot 38 percent (15 of 40).

Hot shooting also sparked Pierre's girls to their victory. The Governors made 22 of 35 field-goal attempts for 63 percent compared to Watertown's six of 21 for 29 percent.

Pierre, which grabbed a 16-8 lead after one quarter and kept adding to it, received 12 points from Ayvrie Kaiser, 11 from Reese Terwilliger and 10 from Remington Price.

Emery Thury's eight points and four steals paced Watertown. Maddy Rohde added six points and Jaida Young four.

The Arrow teams return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 3 against Brandon Valley. The boys will play at home and the girls at Brandon.

Boys Basketball

Castlewood 70, Flandreau 51: Fifth-rated Class B Castlewood took the Lake Central Conference game by getting 14 points apiece from Bryon Laue and Lane Tvedt, 11 from Joe Decker, 10 from Jackson Scfhofield and nine from Quincy Thu. Laue also pulled down eight rebounds. Luke Shepard scored 19 points, Alfie Henderson 12 and Paul Parsley eight for Flandreau.

Clark-Willow Lake 54, Florence-Henry 31: Trey Huber's 13 points and Kaplan Felberg's 11 led the Cyclones, who also got eight from Mitchell Larson and six apiece from Brady Jordan and Cole Heiman. Larson added six rebounds. Mehki Keller had 10 points, Peyton Roe nine points and Ty Bergh 11 rebounds for the Falcons.

Arlington 66, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 56: Blake Madsen poured in 24 points to carry Arlington to the Dakota Valley Conference win. Riley Miller followed with 14 and Tommy Bacon, Evan Fonseca and Leilan Farstad each eight. Caden Hojer tallied 17 points, Riley Schneider 10 and Shayne DeVaney nine for ORR.

Leola-Frederick Area 60, Potter County 27: Brayden Sumption had 12 points, Stephen Achen and Ethan Petrich eight apiece and Noah Kippley seven for LFA. Alex Tanner collected nine points and Ryder Falkenhagen and Jhett Simon eight each for Potter County.

Sioux Valley 92, Beresford 49: The second-rated Cossacks cruised behind 22-point efforts from Patrick Carey and Oliver Vincent. Maxwell Engebretson contributed 15 points and Alec Squires 14 points and eight rebounds. Tate VanOtterloo scored 25 points for Beresford. Aiden Hamm pitched in with nine points and eight rebounds.

Tiospa Zina 65, Webster Area 37: Reondre Greeley produced 24 points, Storm Sierra 16 points and nine rebounds and Tate Never Misses A Shot eight points to spark the Wambdi to the Northeast Conference win. Ian Lesnar notched nine points and Brent Bearman eight points and seven rebounds for the Bearcats.

Waubay-Summit 59, Waverly-South Shore 37: The Mustangs took the Eastern Coteau Conference matchup by getting 22 points, eight rebounds and seven steals from Damon Opdahl. Jonathan Johnston added 16 points and seven rebounds and Jackson Wohlleber 12 and eight. Waverly-South Shore was led by Troy Kneeland's 17 points and Landon Maag's 10.

South Border, N.D. 69, North Central 20: South Border received 24 points from Trevor Schmidt, 13 from Parker Salwei and 12 from Luke Scherbenske. Cole Bukaske tallied seven points and Dawson Walz six for North Central.

Redfield 39, Sisseton 36: Nolan Gall scored 12 points to lead Redfield to the Northeast Conference win. Nate Tchida notched 16 for Sisseton.

Langford Area 60, Wilmot 50: Jesse Keough's 14-point, 13-rebound performance paced Langford, which also got 18 points from Jackson Bahr and 14 from Kasen Keough. Dennis Creadon scored 13 points, Ketrick Genia 10 and Albert Heminger 10 for Wilmot.

Wolsey-Wessington 65, Faulkton Area 27: Tate French's 21 points and Moshe Richmond's 20 powered Wolsey-Wessington. Blaze Herman contributed 10. Layne Cotton tallied 12 points for Faulkton Area.

Aberdeen Christian 58, Mobridge-Pollock 48: The third-rated Class B Knights won by getting 16 points and 10 rebounds from Ethan Russell, 14 points from Malek Wieker and 12 from Jackson Isakson. Jackson Eisemann led MP with 22 points.,

Girls Basketball

Florence-Henry 61, Clark-Willow Lake 41: Caylin Kelly produced 17 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and five steals for the Falcons. Taylor and Trinity Watson joined Reece Schmidt in scoring 10 points apiece. Kayla Jordan's 13 points and Alicia Vig's 11 paced the Cyclones.

Canby 49, Lakeview 47 (Minn.): Paige Nelson and Brynn Kockelman each scored 11 points to lead the Lancers. Kortney Leppke added eight points and six rebounds and Braelyn Merritt six points and five assists.

Wolsey-Wessington 64, Faulkton Area 32: The second-rated Class B Warbirds used 23 points and eight rebounds from Leah Williams and 19 and six from Mallory Miller to roll to victory. Mya Boomsma contributed 12 points. Addison Melius collected 10 points and eight rebounds for Faulkton Area.

Sisseton 64, Redfield 34: Hannah Leverson garnered 13 points and Chloe and Krista Langager each 12 to lift Sisseton to the Northeast Conference win. Chloe Langager also snared six rebounds. Kate Rozell scored 12 points for Redfield.

Mobridge-Pollock 51, Aberdeen Christian 12: Mariah Goehring and Charley Henderson had 12 points apiece for Mobridge-Pollock. Chloe Holt finished with seven points and eight rebounds and Chloe Bosma 10 rebounds for Aberdeen Christian.

Ipswich 48, Waubay-Summit 46: Gabby Wald capped a 21-point night with a tip-in in overtime that gave Ipswich the win. Quincy Olivier added 12 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Waubay-Summit received 25 points and seven rebounds from Eva Benike and 13 points from Faith Larson.

Groton Area 41, Aberdeen Roncalli 24: The Tigers won the Northeast Conference game with 15 points from Brooke Gengerke, nine points from Sydney Leicht and eight rebounds and four assists from Jerica Locke. Camryn Bain's nine points and McKenna O'Keefe's eight paced Roncalli.

Postponements

Aberdeen Central's boys and girls basketball games with Yankton on Thursday have been postponed to Tuesday, Jan. 31 because of the weather. The girls' game is at Yankton and the boys' game at Aberdeen.
