Basketball, track and field stars: Vote for your Pocono Record Athletes of the week Jan. 23 - 29

Don’t run out of time: Make your vote count for these track and field and basketball standouts.

Here are the nominees for your Pocono Record Athletes of the Week.

Every week, the Pocono Record will publish Athletes of the Week polls online. This week's polls will run until Friday at 7 p.m.

And a belated shout out to last week's winners: Lady Cards’ Lily Soller from Pocono Mountain East basketball (4,960 votes) and Adrian Brito from Pocono Mountain West basketball (6,400 votes).

Girls' Athletes of the Week

Sydney Curry, junior, Stroudsburg basketball

Curry’s moves on the court helped the team win 42-41 over Pocono Mountain East on Jan. 27.

She also scored five points against the 47-7 win against Notre Dame on Jan. 28.

Layla Cherif, freshman, East Stroudsburg South track and field

Freshman Layla Cherif from East Stroudsburg South track and field placed fourth at the Clark Summit University Invitational.

In her shot put debut, Cherif (dubbed a phenom by coaches) made the finals and placed fourth at the Clarks Summit University Invitational.

Brianne Steidl, junior, Pocono Mountain West basketball

The starter scored seven points and contributed to the team’s impressive wins against East Stroudsburg North (Lady Panthers won 66-6) on Jan. 27 and Nazareth on Jan. 28 (final score 44-26).

Boys' Athletes of the Week

Richard Gilmore, sophomore, Stroudsburg basketball

The mighty Mountaineer scored 12 points in the two-point victory against Notre Dame on Jan. 28.

Darius Gadsden, senior, Pocono Mountain West basketball

Pocono Mountain West dominated over East Stroudsburg South on Dec. 9. 2022. The Panthers won 68-43 in the blowout game with Julian "Juju" Pagan scoring 30 points.

Gadsden shined on court with three points against Nazareth on Jan. 28 (West won on 74-55).

The team is 14-4 as of Jan. 31.

Zahir Williams-Dennis, senior, East Stroudsburg South track and field

In his last year as a Cavs track and field star, Williams-Dennis placed third in the 55m dash (6.99) at the Clarks Summit University Invitational.
