HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police have released new details about a deadly crash that occurred on Route 220 in Henry County on Monday morning.
State police said the collision occurred around 11:15 a.m. on Feb. 12, when 44-year-old Joshua Brandon Verno, of Bassett, was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry south Route 220 when he changed lanes and lost control.
VSP said the Toyota then crossed into the northbound lanes and was hit by a Chrysler van.
Verno died at the scene.
Troopers said the driver of the van was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The crash shut down US-220 for hours and a detour was set in place as crews worked on the scene. Once the crash was cleared, all lanes were reopened.
The crash remains under investigation; however, VSP said Verno was not wearing his seatbelt.
