Batesville library March events schedule

Feb. 28—BATESVILLE — There are several special events and activities planned for the first half of March at the Batesville Memorial Public Library.

Mar. 4 at 10 or 11 a.m. — Mother Goose Toddler Time for ages 0-3. Miss Sarah will host a 30 minute session designed to stimulate the learning process of babies and toddlers. No registration required

Mar. 4 at 4:40 p.m. — Kid Totality Talk with Mark Littman — Join Mark Littman as he answers questions kiddos may have about the upcoming eclipse. We would recommend ages 1st — 8th grade. He is an expert in all things eclipse and can discuss the phases of an eclipse. No registration. Open to the public. Free eclipse glasses to attendees.

Mar. 4 at 6:30 p.m. — Totality: The Great North American Eclipse of 2024 with Mark Littman — This talk is based on Mark Littman's comprehensive book about eclipses of the same name. You will learn about solar eclipses, especially total eclipses, featuring the upcoming eclipse. The talk includes not only the science of eclipses (in terms everyone can understand) but also the mythology and folklore of eclipses, how humans have reacted to them in the past, what we have learned from eclipses, and how to observe a solar eclipse safely and most enjoyably. No registration. Open to the public. Free eclipse glasses to attendees.

Mar. 5 at 10 a.m., 2 and 6 p.m. — There's no time like Storytime! Join us every Tuesday for a fun filled 45 minute session that incorporates books, songs, and activities to build early literacy skills. This program is geared towards children ages 3 to 6. No Registration required

Mar. 5 at 4 p.m. — Story Seekers Book Club — Participants will discuss the book The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1) and start reading Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson. This book club is for grades 3rd — 8th and meets the first Tuesday of the month. To learn more visit ebatesville.com/events.

Mar. 7 at 1 p.m. — Glass Etching (Adult Craft) — Learn the simple craft of glass etching. A small glass vessel will be provided (the image is representative only). Several templates will be provided: flowers, bees, monograms, and other simple designs. One simple glass vessel will be provided, but feel free to bring one of your glass vessels from home. Mar. 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. — 5 p.m. — Friends of BMPL Spring Book Sale. Held at the BMPL Annex. Hundreds of books for children, teens, and adults.

Mar. 9 at 10 a.m. — Saturday Storytime — Join us for a fun filled 45 minute session that incorporates books, songs, and activities to build early literacy skills. This program is geared towards children ages 3 to 6. No Registration required

Mar. 11 at 4 p.m. — Little Sprouts Garden Club — This program is for AGES 3 — 6 year olds. This club will meet once a month and talk about all things garden with your little ones. Join us each month as we go from starting seeds to picking our produce in our BMPL garden. This is a hands-on program for littles with crafts in between. This month we will plant seedlings for the Little Sprouts garden and some seedlings for yourself. Registration required

Mar. 11 at 7 p.m. — Economics Plain and Simple: Special Problems in Time and Risk — Perhaps the most important thing about risk is its inescapability. Particular individuals, groups, or institutions may be sheltered from risk—but only at the cost of having someone else bear that risk. There is no "someone" else for society as a whole. Obvious as this may seem, it is easy to forget, especially by those who are sheltered from risk, as many are, to varying degrees. Led by Marc Cerniglia. Registration requested

Mar. 12 at 1 p.m. — BMPL Homeschool Program — Taste of Spring Flower Pot (Craft) — For grades 1st — 6th. Participants will create a beautiful, small flower pot to get them to think spring! Registration required

Mar. 12 at 6:30 p.m. — Aging Care Series: 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's — This program sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Cincinnati will focus on: What to watch for in yourself and others. Alzheimer's causes changes in memory, thinking and behavior that are not normal aging. Join us to learn about: The difference between normal aging and Alzheimer's. Mar. 14 at 4 p.m. — Kids Who Code — This is a new BMPL youth program! Interested in computer coding? Join us for a fun introduction to Scratch. Mar. 14 at 5 p.m. — Visit with Nanny the Dog — Eli's Dog Club presents: Bunnies, Bingo and Doggie Snuggles! Join us for bunny photos with Nanny, bingo and an egg hunt! She will be in the Activity Lab in the Children's area from 5-6. No Registration required, just stop by!

Mar. 15 at 9:30 a.m. — 1 p.m. — BMPL blood drive — Schedule as appointment at https://donate.indiana.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/165859. This is held in the BMPL Meeting Rooms.
