Bi Batfans are having a great day today!
In issue #5 of Batman: The Knight by Chip Zdarsky, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Ivan Plascencia, and Pat Brosseau, many fans were delighted by a storyline that seemed to hint that Bruce Wayne, the man who would become Batman, might be bisexual.
The story is about young Bruce, training in espionage and bonding with his fellow trainee Anton. After mission doesn’t go as expected, Bruce and Anton are alone, and Bruce opens up about how he feels like a failure.
“I know it may not seem like it, but you don’t have to be the best at everything,” Anton tells him as he goes in for a kiss. “You’re amazing Bruce. I thought I was alone in this world, but you…”
Unfortunately, right when both Anton and Bruce pucker up, they’re interrupted by Avery Oblonsky, the ex-KGB agent training them.
It’s not the same type of coming out that Robin or Superman had, but it could be hinting at more to come for the Caped Crusader.
ScreenRant also points out that almost-kiss comes just one week after Batman was heavily flirting with another bisexual superhero, John Constantine, in the last issue of Batman: Urban Legends. Holy bisexual shenanigans, Batman, what is going on here?!?
DC has been really coming out swinging with the bisexual representation lately. Harley Quinn has been out as bisexual for years, first being in a toxic relationship with the Joker, and now being in a much healthier one with Poison Ivy.
Then last year, two of DC’s most popular young male heroes came out. First Tim Drake, also known as Robin, came out as bi when he accepted a date with his friend Bernard. He had saved Bernard while on a mission as Robin earlier in the issue.
Then, in Superman: Son of Kal-El #5, Jon Kent, the superpowered son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane who has taken over his father’s mantle of Superman, also came out as bisexual! He had initially built a friendship with reporter Jay Nakamura, but the two soon became romantically involved as well.
Could Batman be the next hero to join the Bi Parade? We definitely hope so. And with Pride Month coming up in just a couple of weeks, now is the perfect time for him to come out!
