Hey Cincinnati, it’s Sydney Franklin, real estate enterprise reporter for The Enquirer.

One of Downtown’s most controversial pieces of architecture is about to undergo a massive transformation from the inside out. The big brick box known as the former Terrace Plaza Hotel will no longer be the behemoth we’ve all come to avoid on Sixth Street. Instead, it will be full of new apartments you may want to live in, plenty of parking and some much-needed street-level retail.

If you’re familiar with the Downtown retail spots that survived the pandemic, you’ve probably heard of Batsakes Hat Shop, the 116-year-old business that operated out of the hotel’s corner storefront for 22 years.

Scores of Cincinnatians and celebrities from Bob Dylan and Snoop Dogg to Luciano Pavarotti and Ronald Reagan have been fitted for custom-made hats by Batsakes’ longtime owner, Gus Miller. He’s a Cincinnati legend.

But over the last few years, his shop wasn’t safe in the hazardous Terrace Plaza Hotel. Click or tap here to find out what Miller thinks of his new spot and what’s next for Batsakes.
