BATTING FRENZY: Bartlesville High baseball scorches diamond for 29 runs in weekend games

Bartlesville High School pitcher Eric Olenberger prepares to fire the ball during the Senior Night game on April 14, 2023, at Rigdon Field. The Bruins routed Skiatook, 19-4. Olenberger is part of one of the winningest -- if not the winningest -- classes in Bruin baseball history. Since their sophomore year, Bartlesville has won 66 games and is taking aim on well more than 70 victories.

Nothing short of a flood, earthquake or hurricane could have deterred the Bartlesville High School baseball team from an historically prolific outing.

Unleashing a devastating barrage of 15 hits — spearheaded by five doubles — and 20 total bases — the Bruins scored a team-record number of runs during the Cody Price coaching era.

They thundered to a 12-0 lead in the bottom of the first and mangled the visiting Bulldogs, 19-4, at Rigdon Field in Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.

Eric Olenberger — the hero of the previous game with a grand slam — crushed two doubles, scored four runs and recorded three RBIs.

Brenden Asher, Zeb Henry and Aidan Silva each added one double, with Asher plating two runs.

Luke Fox beat up Skiatook pitching with three singles, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Brett Eaves added a single and pushed three tallies across home plate.

Producing one RBI each were Nik Johnson, Grant Clark and Kaden Romesburg.

Damien Niko and Shawn Tate each added a run to the staggering total.

The Skiatook Bulldogs brought some bite, as well, including a double by Ben Jeffries and triple by Brysen Carp. Carp suffered the pitching setback.

Olenberger pitched the first four innings for Bartlesville and notched a string of fours — four hits, four runs and four strikeouts. He gave up only one walk. Silva closed out the final inning.

The remainder of the week’s schedule is: Tuesday, at Enid; Thursday, host Tulsa Washington; Friday, at Jenks; and Saturday, host Coweta.

WIN NO. 70

On Saturday, Bartlesville squandered a big lead but recovered quickly en route to knocking off Coweta, 10-6, in a non-district ball-knocker in Coweta. This also was Price's 70th career win.

The teams combined for 20 hits, including nine doubles or triples, and left a total of 23 baserunners stranded.

For Bartlesville, Eaves crushed a triple and a double and drove in two runs. Fox triple, walked and scored twice.

Asher, Zeb Henry and Tate each contributed a double.

Bruin baserunners also kept Coweta's defense on edge -- Bartlesville swiped six bags in seven attempts, led by Davis Chancellor with two.

Price utilized pitching by committee -- Kaden Romesburg, Shawn Tate and Fox. Fox collected the win in 3.1 innings. He allowed two hits, no walks, no earned runs (one unearned) and struck out five hitters.

Barnett, Taylor and Gay each doubled for Coweta.
