BATTLE CREEK — Battle Creek Academy, a charter school affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, appears to be in desperate need of a new roof.

To raise the necessary funds, the academy has launched a “Buckets For Blessings, Not Raindrops” campaign. Containers are positioned in various businesses throughout the Cereal City so residents can donate to the cause.

Buckets are currently stationed at Griffin Grill & Pub, Myers Chiropractic, Zaharion Automotive, iGeek, Columbia Auto & Tire and BC Subs. More locations are planned, officials said in a release about the school's campaign.

Established in 1872, the academy has been serving the educational needs of students in Battle Creek and surrounding areas for 150 years.

The academy has been housed at its current 480 Parkway Drive facility since 1948.

"Battle Creek Academy exists both to serve the community through quality education to many of Battle Creek’s finest young people and to give back to the community through service projects and cultural enrichment," school officials said in their release. "Having recently celebrated 150 years of quality education, the school hopes to go forward even more strongly into its next 150 years by updating and modernizing its facilities, beginning with replacement of the dilapidated roof."

A message seeking additional comment was left with the school.

Donations can be submitted at participating businesses. Tax-deductible donations may also be made by contacting the school office at (269) 965-1278 or visiting battlecreekacademy.com.
