With a combination of basketball talent and skills in the classroom, Battle Creek Central's Shayla Ardis is just what the Kalamazoo College coaches were looking for.

It seems Kalamazoo College is the kind of program Ardis was looking for as well as the Bearcat senior committed to play basketball for the Hornets during a signing ceremony at Battle Creek Central High School on Tuesday.

"She's an excellent student, so she is an ideal candidate to continue her education and to play basketball at a school like Kalamazoo College," said BCC girls basketball coach Tony Warren. "She is the complete package, she is a triple threat, she is a good student, good player, has tremendous upside. So I can see why Kalamazoo College was interested."

A two-year starter, Ardis gave Battle Creek Central a much-needed presence in the post as the Bearcats were undersized, facing much bigger teams much of the year during a 4-13 campaign. Ardis had a big senior season as she was a team captain and a leader on and off the floor with a team-high 9.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, earning All-City honors and all-league consideration.
