Battle Creek Police arrest suspect in Christopher Williams murder

Battle Creek police have arrested a suspect in the July 11 shooting death of 17-year-old Christopher Mark Williams.

The suspect is a 19-year-old Battle Creek man, whose identity will be released upon his arraignment, according to a release from police.

The Calhoun County Prosecutor's Office has approved an open murder charge and weapons offense charge. The suspect is in Calhoun County Jail, police said.

Williams, of Battle Creek, had just graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in June.

On July 11, Calhoun County Dispatch received several calls for multiple gunshots in the area of Arbor Pointe Townhomes — off Jackson Street West, near North 20th Street. Police found Williams who had been shot. He was taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital and later died, police said.

On July 20, Battle Creek Central football players and cheerleaders hosted a car wash, raising more than $5,000 toward funeral expenses for Williams' family.
