Baxter baseball can't hold lead against North Tama

Jun. 15—BAXTER — Baxter's baseball team was a few innings away from ending a long losing skid against North Tama on June 11, but the Redhawks rallied with a four-run fifth inning during an 8-7 road win.

Baxter led the Iowa Star Conference South Division game 6-4 after four innings and plated one in the seventh but fell one run short of knocking off the conference leader.

The Bolts (1-10 overall, 1-6 in conference play) cranked out 13 hits and committed only two errors but it wasn't enough. North Tama (8-5, 4-2) finished with eight hits.

Rory Heer, Jake Travis, Cael Shepley and Nate McMinamen all had two hits.

Heer added two runs, two steals and one walk, Travis chipped in two RBIs and one walk and McMinamen finished with one RBI.

Travis has played in seven games this season and is hitting .474.

Ben Richardson finished with one hit, one walk, two runs and two steals, Cody Damman had one hit, one run and one steal and was hit by two pitches and Perrin Sulzie added one hit and one walk.

Jalen Porter and Brad Matthews each had one hit and scored one run.

Andrew Klemme (1-2) took the loss on the mound after allowing eight runs — five earned — on five hits with four strikeouts and six walks in four innings.

Travis pitched the final three innings and surrendered no runs on three hits with seven strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter.

Don Bosco 17, Baxter 3

Don Bosco scored at least two runs in all five innings against the Bolts on June 9 and routed the home team 17-3.

The Dons (9-3) finished with 11 hits and three errors but held the Bolts to four hits and they committed three errors.

Damman, Porter, Shepley and McMinamen all had one hit each. McMinamen doubled and scored one run, Damman added one walk and one run, Porter drew a walk and Shepley scored one run.

Klemme also tallied an RBI and Richardson collected one walk.

Shepley took the loss on the mound after throwing two innings and allowing eight runs — six earned — on seven hits with two strikeouts, two walks and two hit batters.

Sulzie threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed five runs — one earned — on two hits and three walks.

McMinamen allowed four runs — three earned — on four hits with one strikeout, one walk and one hit batter in one inning and Aidan Johnson got one out and walked three.
