Baxter boys track faces tough field at South Hamilton

Apr. 24—JEWELL — Baxter's boys track and field team competed against mostly Class 2A and 3A schools in the South Hamilton Hawk Relays on Thursday.

The 1A Bolts scored just seven points on the day and finished in the top six of three events.

The best finish came in the shuttle hurdle relay where Ashton Kerwin, Kolton Hill, Logan Jones and Keenan Varner placed fourth with a time of 1 minute, 18.22 seconds.

In the discus, Nate McMinamen was fifth with a throw of 109 feet, 6 3/4 inches.

The Bolts' 4x800 relay also placed sixth. Cody Samson, Carson Scroggins, Cody Damman and Rory Heer finished the race in 9:27.68.

The field included eight teams. Roland-Story won the meet with 127.5 points and North Polk (114) and Fort Dodge St. Edmond (101) also reached triple digit points.

Host South Hamilton scored 96 points in fourth and the rest of the field included Hampton-Dumont-CAL (75.5), Des Moines Christian (62), Garner-Hayfield-Ventura (23) and Baxter (7).
