Baxter football ends regular season with rout of Twin Cedars

Oct. 16—BAXTER — Baxter's football team is averaging 65.4 points per game this season. The Bolts got 75 percent of that number by the end of the first quarter against Twin Cedars on Friday.

In the regular season finale, and without its best player, Baxter cruised to an 82-6 home win during 8-man District 7 action.

The Bolts led 46-0 after one quarter and outscored the Sabers 22-0 in the third. They are now 7-1 for the second straight season and will be playing in their third straight postseason next week.

Baxter goes on the road for the opening round of the 8-man playoffs to face CAM at 7 p.m. on Friday in Anita.

Cody Damman suffered a concussion in last week's two-point loss to Montezuma and sat out Friday's game against Twin Cedars.

The Bolts (7-1 overall, 5-1 in the district) didn't need him though as backup quarterback Perrin Sulzle threw for 134 yards and four touchdowns on six completions and Eli Dee was 1-of-2 through the air for a 48-yard touchdown.

Cade Robinson led the offense with 96 rushing yards and one TD and one catch for 15 yards.

Jake Travis gained 25 yards on his only carry and hauled in three catches for 82 yards and two TDs.

Evan Mahoney added 59 rushing yards on two carries and a 41-yard kickoff return TD. Cael Shepley (48 yards), Kolton Hill (27 yards) and Treyton Travis (10 yards) all grabbed one TD on their only catch of the game.

The Bolts' defense collected four sacks, five interceptions and 13.5 tackles for loss.

Jake Travis led the defense with five tackles, two sacks and five tackles for loss. He ranks first in 8-man with 32.5 tackles for loss this season and is fourth with 14 sacks.

Jack Anderson finished with 2.5 tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and one interception.

Shepley collected 4.5 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, Cainan Travis and Cody Samson each had 3.5 tackles and one pick and Skyler Stoll chipped in two tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.

Trice Clapper tallied 2.5 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, Ashton Kerwin registered three tackles and Treyton Travis snagged two interceptions.

The Sabers fell to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in district play.
