Baxter girls finish fourth at Dream Builders Coed
May 7—MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — A 1-2 finish in the 100-meter hurdles by Camryn Russell and Bree Buswell led the Baxter girls' track and field team to fourth place at the Meskwaki Dream Builders Coed Invitational on Monday.
The Bolts scored double points in three events and their 75 points put them in fourth in the eight-team field.
Collins-Maxwell won the meet championship with 164 points. BCLUW had 126 points in second and North Tama scored 91 in third. Colo-NESCO (72), South Tama County (68), GMG (62) and host Meskwaki Settlement School (24) completed the field.
Russell won the 100 hurdles in a career-best 16.99 seconds and Buswell was the runner-up in a career-best 17.06.
Mandee Selover registered two runner-up finishes. She was second in the 100 in a career-best 13.5 seconds and Selover's leap of 14 feet, 9 1/2 inches placed her second in the long jump.
Russell gave the Bolts double points in the long jump. She took fourth with a mark of 14-4 1/2. Grace Anderegg finished sixth in the 100 in a career-best 14.1.
Zoey Gliem collected the only third-place finish for the Bolts. She was third in the 1,500 with a time of 6 minutes, 9.55 seconds. Caydence Sulzle was sixth in the 800 in 3:04.23.
Gliem and Sulzle teamed up with Regan Russell and Emie Tuhn to place second in the 4x800 relay. That team stopped the clock in 11:52.15.
Bolts take sixth at conference meet
MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — A 1-2 finish in the 100 hurdles highlighted the Bolts' night at the Iowa Star Conference meet on Thursday.
Camryn Russell and Buswell finished .02 seconds apart in the 100 hurdles and the other top-three finish came in the 4x800 relay.
The trio of top-three finishes helped the Bolts score 60 points in sixth.
BCLUW won the conference championship with 115.75 points. Collins-Maxwell (91.25) was the runner-up, Clarksville (76) finished third and Don Bosco (69) and Janesville (67.5) also came in ahead of the Bolts to complete the top five.
The rest of the 15-team field featured Dunkerton (52), North Tama (44.5), Riceville (44), Tripoli (43), Colo-NESCO (32), GMG (20), Waterloo Christian (17), host Meskwaki Settlement School (6) and Valley Lutheran (1).
Carmen Russell's winning time in the 100 hurdles was clocked in 17.53 seconds. Buswell was the runner-up in 17.55.
The third-place 4x800 relay team featured Regan Russell, Tuhn, Sulzle and Morgan Ratliff and they finished the race in 11:12.21.
The Bolts were top six in five other events. Selover led the next group, placing fourth in the 400 (1:05.32) and sixth in the 100 (14.08).
Gliem (career-best 5:57.15) placed fifth in the 1,500, Camryn Russell finished fifth (15-3 1/2) in the long jump and Regan Russell (2:49.45) came in sixth in the 800.
