Baxter Springs, Kansas, man sentenced in child sexual abuse case

Jan. 24—COLUMBUS, Kan. — A 40-year-old man from Baxter Springs was sentenced Wednesday to 50 years in prison for sexually abusing a child over a three-year period.

A Cherokee County jury convicted Jeremy Shrout of three counts of rape and a single count of indecent liberties with a child at a trial in November in Cherokee County District Court. The abuse was reported to have taken place between 2019 and 2021.

Shrout remains in custody at the Cherokee County Jail in Columbus pending his transfer to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
