Bay Area Lawmaker Seeks To Decriminalize Jaywalking, Says Citations Disproportionately Issued To People Of Color

A Bay Area lawmaker is seeking to decriminalize jaywalking in California, saying such citations are disproportionately issued to people of color and have led to life-threatening encounters with law enforcement. KPIX's Kenny Choi has more.

KENNY CHOI: I'm Kenny Choi in San Francisco. This is a busy street right in front of the City College of San Francisco. A state lawmaker wants to decriminalize jaywalking and say that tickets and citations disproportionately impact people of color. We'll take a closer look at some of the data that they're citing and talk to the other side, those who think that this is a bad idea and that it could lead to unsafe conditions.
