The Bay season 5 casts Happy Valley star
Filming has officially begun on the fifth season of ITV crime drama The Bay, which has added some new stars to its cast.
Olwen May, who played Ryan's headteacher during season two of Happy Valley, joins the main cast as a new member of the Morecambe MIU team. You may also recognize May from her relationship, as she's married to fellow Happy Valley star Kevin Doyle.
Casualty star Suzanne Packer has also joined the roster and will portray DS Jenn Townsend's mum, Anne.

Meanwhile, guest stars for the new season will include Leanne Best (Cold Feet), Neil Maskell (Hijack), David Troughton (A Very Peculiar Place), Stephen Wight (I May Destroy You), Ceallach Spellman (White Lines) and Tara Lynne O’Neill (Derry Girls).
Marsha Thomasan will reprise her lead role as DSI Jenn Townsend in season five, alongside Daniel Ryan as DI Tony Manning, Erin Shanagher as DS Karen Hobson and Andrew Dowbiggin as DS James Clarke.
The new episodes will follow the MIU team as they investigate the case of university student Hannah, who was found dead on the edge of the docks.

Jenn is forced to push the grief she still harbours over her father's death aside to "support Hannah's bitterly divided family" and, as the team dig deeper into the case, "they uncover hidden friendships and secret liaisons as the anger rises in the student community".
Season five's synopsis continues: "As intensity increases and the team peel back the complicated layers of Hannah’s life and the secrets within it, Jenn must reconcile her personal and professional struggles as she grapples to solve the case, come to terms with her own loss and build bridges with her family."
All four series of The Bay are available to stream on ITVX. Season five is yet to receive a release date.
