The Bay star responds to question of show's future beyond season 4

The Bay star Marsha Thomason has opened up about the show's future beyond the fourth season following the plot surrounding cutbacks and the potential closing of the department.
The ITV police drama follows Thomason as Detective Sergeant Jenn Townsend, who in season four has to investigate a family home burning down and the subsequent death of a mother of four children.
But while that mystery is the central conflict in this ITV whodunnit, season four also includes plenty of talks about cutbacks in the police department. There is even talk of the department potentially closing down.

Some took this as the show setting itself up for a final season sometime in the near future. Digital Spy spoke exclusively to Thomason about this, who assured fans there is nothing to worry about.
"No I don't think it's about that," Thomason said.
"Listen, do you think they're trying to end the show? No. They want these shows to go on as long as possible. That's just more about the state of policing, all the cutbacks all the time. That's what that's about."

Digital Spy spoke extensively to Thomason in a recent interview, during which Thomason opened up about her experiences working on season four — which was her second season on the show after her character was introduced in season three.
"When we met Jenn at the beginning of series three she was having a crisis of confidence, she'd been through something at work that had just knocked her and she didn't trust herself anymore," Thomason said.
"And it's clear that that trust is back [this time], she's back to being herself. She's found herself again. Also, she isn't new anymore, and she really is part of the team. Even Clarkie is her mate now, and they were kind of adversaries last series."
The Bay series 4 airs on ITV and is available as a boxset on ITVX.
