The Bay star Marsha Thomason has teased the fourth series of the show will reveal a different side to her character.

The actress has played DS Jenn Townsend since the beginning of the third series, and hinted that the upcoming episodes would flesh the character out.

One development will see her husband’s ex-wife move to the area, but Thomason revealed that much of the tensions will arise from the case, with Joe Armstrong's Dean proving particularly prickly.

"Jenn is incredibly frustrated [by him]," Thomason told the RadioTimes. "She raises her voice and is combative with him, which is really interesting to watch. It's a very different Jenn we're seeing with this family from last year."

Though she might exhibit her feistier side when at work, Thomason revealed that Jenn is now more acclimated with her surroundings in Morecambe.

"Jenn's much more settled in this year, you find a much more confident Jenn," she said. "She was having a crisis of confidence last series and she's much more in her comfort zone in her work this year.

"Her family's settled in, the children are getting along with each other much better and things are good with her and Chris – though our friend Claire Goose is throwing a bit of a spanner in the works, which makes it interesting."
