Bayer says there are ‘bumps on the road’ to settling the huge U.S. lawsuits over its Roundup weedkiller.

The German company struck an agreement in June covering about three-quarters of the 125,000 claims against it.

The litigants claim exposure to Roundup caused cancer.

Now Bayer says that settling is contingent on some kind of deal over what to do about future cases.

It wants a scientific panel to rule on any subsequent claims.

In response a U.S. judge has threatened to restart the litigation, asking if Bayer is trying to go back on the settlement, according to Bloomberg News.

Bayer shares dropped as much as 3 percent following the reports.

One of the leading lawyers involved in the case says he’s prepared to bring cases to trial again.

Brent Wisner says ‘either settle or don’t’, but drop the indecision.

Bayer inherited the headache after its 63 billion dollar takeover of seed company Monsanto in 2018.

Reuters sources say a court hearing will be held on September 24 to review the case.

Bayer says it expects the litigation to remain on hold until at least then, but expressed confidence that a settlement would be finalized.
