Good news in Thursday's newly-released Leapfrog 2018 rankings for northern Monmouth County's two hospitals:

HOLMDEL, NJ — Good news for the two hospitals located in northern Monmouth County: Both Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel and Riverview Medical Center received "A" grades for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group in their latest 2018 survey, just released Thursday.

Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch also received an A grade, as did Jersey Shore University Medical Center, the area's trauma center where the most seriously injured are taken.

Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge and CentraState in Freehold, however, received B grades.

Leapfrog evaluates all New Jersey hospitals twice a year, in the spring and the fall. They say their rating system is based on errors, accidents, injuries and infections that occur at each hospital.

Both Bayshore and Riverview earned high marks for control of common hospital infections, such as MRSA (Staph bacteria) infections, C. diff infections, urinary tract infections and surgical site infections after surgery, among others.

They also graded well for control of bed sores, patient slips and falls, medication being ordered through a computer, handwashing and safe surgeries.
