Bayshore to start removing vehicles from collapsed parking garage on Thursday morning

Bayshore will begin removing vehicles on Thursday morning from the Silver Spring parking garage that partially collapsed on Feb. 23, the mall announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The mall will retrieve vehicles from Level 2 of the garage, according to a news release from the mall. Bayshore's engineers approved the process and plan for vehicle removal on a temporary ramp connecting the first and second levels of the garage, according to the release.

Only one vehicle will be removed at a time, and the mall is scheduling retrieval with vehicle owners. All vehicles on the second level will be removed and returned to their owners by the end of the day Friday.

Bayshore announced Feb. 27 they would start removing vehicles from the garage this week. Bayshore management team members, along with Bayshore Security, will escort vehicle owners to their vehicle to confirm ownership, retrieve their key and officials will then drive the car out of the garage, according to Monday's release.

The parking structure, located near Trader Joe's at 5600 N. Port Washington Road, partially collapsed on Thursday around 12:15 p.m. after receiving up to 1.2 inches of snow and sleet, according to the North Shore Fire Department. No one was injured in the incident.
