🌱 Bayside Man Celebrates 105th Birthday + LIC Slasher

Happy Tuesday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening locally today.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny; breezy, colder. High: 33 Low: 22.

Here are the top three stories in Queens today:

  1. NYPD is asking the public for help finding the suspect in a slashing that took place in the 21st Street-Queensbridge subway station in Long Island City on Dec. 12. The attack took place at about 9:15 p.m. when a 28-year-old woman got into a verbal dispute with a male acquaintance, according to the 114th Precinct and Transit District 20. The confrontation then escalated into a physical altercation, at which point the man pulled out an unknown object and slashed the victim on the left side of her face, causing a small laceration. (Queens Chronicle)

  2. After recovering from COVID-19 twice, a Bayside man celebrated his 105th birthday. Paul Barberio was previously hospitalized twice at North Shore Hospital, and was wheeled out to applause upon his release last Jan. To celebrate his birthday, his family threw the great-grandfather a party to mark the occasion. (WABC-TV)

  3. Police are looking for a suspect who was caught on video shooting a speed camera earlier this month in Queens. The person was riding an e-bike on a snow covered street around 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 7 at 86th Street and 158th Avenue in Howard Beach. A video captured the suspect as they looked around, and then pulled out a gun and fire multiple shots at the camera. (CBS New York)

Doing a "Dry January" or just looking for a flavorful alternative to regular cocktails? Here's a suggestion: try a non-alcoholic drink from our partners at Betera. Created by an award-winning chef from natural botanicals, Betera’s drinks come in 3 flavors — Ginger-Orange, Elderflower-Lime and Rhubarb-Hibiscus. We tried Ginger-Orange, and it was excellent — lightly effervescent, floral with a hint of bitterness and the sippability of a cocktail.

Betera is offering readers of the Daily a 15% discount on their first order: use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — you can try Betera here.
