BBBSECO announces new partnerships with local school districts

School is in full swing and kids are falling into their same old routines. However, elementary and middle school aged children within the Conotton Valley and Indian Valley school districts, are going to have the opportunity to join the fun of a Big Brothers Big Sisters school based mentoring program this school year.

During these programs, a student will meet with their carefully matched mentor in a curriculum based setting. These mentors can be high school students or a local screened adult, that are selected for the child based on similar interests. A Mentoring Specialist from BBBSECO will facilitate the meetings and provide a curriculum that focuses on Social Emotional Learning competencies such as self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills, goal directed behavior, personal responsibility, decision making, and positive thinking. The mentoring specialist provides activities with these competencies in mind, and that allows the relationship growth between the matches.

Big Brothers Big Sisters school based mentoring programs are built on evidence of the impact provided to it'smembers. Children tend to improve grades, leadership skills, confidence, discipline, and relationships with otherchildren and adults alike, after becoming a part of a BBBS program.
