The BBC has confirmed that a brand new X Factor-style talent show has been commissioned for the broadcaster, hoping to find the nation's next top actor.

Titled Bring The Drama (working title), the BBC2 show will see aspiring actors take part in a six-part-series, which promises industry representation and a role in a BBC drama for the strongest candidate.

The show aims to give hopefuls of all ages and backgrounds access to pursue a career in TV, with access to mentoring from industry leaders, casting directors and celebrated stars.

"British TV actors are among the best in the world, but there’s still plenty of undiscovered talent waiting for their big break," said Clare Mottershead, BBC Commissioning Editor, Factual & Events.

"In this entertaining and revealing new competition, we’re scouring the UK to find our next acting superstars, as we put them put through their paces behind the scenes of some of Britain’s biggest and best loved dramas."

The series will also coincide with the launch of BBC's Bring The Drama Festival, which will see the broadcaster work with cultural organisations across the country to promote careers in the creative industry and provide access to young hopefuls.

"This new competition is about giving everyone the chance to break into a fearsomely competitive industry. Many people across the UK dream of becoming an actor, but few get the opportunities and training to do it," Suzy Klein, Head of Commissioning, Arts & Classical Music added.

"Bring The Drama promises to take them on the ride of a lifetime, giving them the skills and experience that they could only get in a prestigious acting school.

"And with a major real-world campaign of access into the wider film, TV and theatre industries running alongside the TV series, we hope to support the pipeline of world-beating talent that makes the UK one of the most creative places in the world."

The BBC remains an acclaimed home of British drama, with Peaky Blinders, Beyond Paradise, Doctor Who and Vigil among popular shows to air recently. The BBC is teaming up on Bring The Drama with Wall To Wall Media UK, the team behind Who Do You Think You Are? and Glow Up.

Applications are now open for the series, which can be found here.
