BBC Breakfast was suddenly taken off air this morning after there was an evacuation in the building.

The programme was in the middle of a live report from Aerospace Bristol to mark 20 years since Concorde's final flight.

However, during a pre-recorded video clip, the coverage suddenly shifted to the BBC News feed, to the surprise and confusion of viewers.

"Has anyone else's #BBCBreakfast just switched to BBC News?" one viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter, while another said, "Hope everyone in #BBCBreakfast studio is ok and it's just a technical glitch."

The BBC's flagship show was off air for just over 10 minutes, before eventually returning to hosts Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty in the studio who clarified what had happened.

"You're returning to BBC Breakfast," Munchetty said. "Apologies, we had an evacuation in the building. But we are back now with you to keep you up to date with the latest in the news."

The presenters recapped the day's headlines before returning to the previously interrupted report.

John Maguire, who was reporting live from Bristol, said on the incident: "Morning Naga. Concorde geek interrupted, isn't it, this morning!"

This week it was announced that fellow BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent would be taking part in the upcoming Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, alongside celebrities such as EastEnders' Jamie Borthwick and Sugababes member Keisha Buchanan.

On the show, which will air on Christmas Day, Nugent will dance with professional Graziano di Prima – who was partnered with Zara McDermott in the current series.

"I was in need of a little pick me up when the lovely people at Strictly called," the presenter shared in a post on Instagram. "I am definitely not a dancer – but I will try my best. And there is no one better to learn with."

BBC Breakfast airs every morning from 6am on BBC One.
