BBC Children in Need 2022 grand total confirmed

The BBC’s Children in Need has announced its grand total for the 2022 telethon.

The three-hour live special on BBC One on Friday (November 18) ended with the announcement that a whopping £35,273,167 was raised directly from the TV appeal.

And while it is not as big of a total as last year, it is still very impressive seeing as in years past, the Children in Need special was a night-long programme and the UK is currently dealing with a cost of living crisis.

This year’s special was hosted by Ade Adepitan, Mel Giedroyc, Chris Ramsey, Alex Scott and Jason Manford, with singer-songwriter Mimi Webb kicking things off with her rendition of ‘Ghost of You’.

Stars including Lewis Capaldi, Graham Norton, Joe Wicks, Bradley Walsh and Diversity all took part in this year's Children in Need show.

In a pre-recorded clip, England footballer Mason Mount surprised fundraising schoolchildren during a tour of Wembley Stadium, while TV presenter Bradley Walsh hosted a children's takeover of Blankety Blank, with contestants including EastEnders star Maisie Smith and The Great British Bake Off's John Whaite.

Also announced was the new companion for Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who, and it was revealed to be Coronation Street star Millie Gibson.

Some celebrity fundraising efforts included Wicks walking a 30-mile ultra-marathon. The Body Coach raised more than £500,000 by walking a rain-drenched path, and even though he had a “massive” blister on his foot, he still managed to join in for the show from Salford in Manchester.

"I wanted to do as much as I could for the charity again this year, especially given how hard things are for so many children and young people in the UK right now," he said.
