The BBC has confirmed that Waterloo Road will return to broadcasting next week after being taken off the schedule last night.

The soap was due to air yesterday evening (January 16), though the FA Cup match between Bristol City and West Ham meant that the sports event took priority.

Also affected were Silent Witness and EastEnders – and as a result, Waterloo Road will return to broadcast next Tuesday (January 23) at 8pm instead. Silent Witness will also be back on Monday (January 22) at 9pm.

EastEnders will make up for its missed Tuesday edition with a new episode on Friday (January 19) instead.

The shows aren’t the only ones that have been affected by the FA Cup this month, with Coronation Street pushing back a number of episodes on ITV1 due to matches.

Waterloo Road returned for its 13th series earlier this month, and one of the big storylines focuses on Preston Walters' romance with Kai Sharif.

Speaking recently to Digital Spy and other media, Preston actor Noah Valentine opened up about the fan reaction to the couple.

"Adam [Ali, who plays Kai] put a thing about a ship name on social media, and it was either Keston or Pai and I think obviously Pai sounds better. Everyone voted for Pai, and so now that's what we are," he said.

"Everyone absolutely loves us, literally. It's nice though. It's nice to see so many people take comfort in their relationship and you'll see more of the relationship explored in this season as well."
