The BBC is launching a new dating show titled Love In The Flesh to rival ITV's Love Island. The project will follow pairs who met on dating apps during lockdown, jetting them off on a sunny holiday to meet for the first time.

The new series is set to begin filming this summer - provided the country doesn't go into another lockdown over the next few months - with episodes due to air later this year.

The new dating show aims to help couples who got together via dating apps over lockdown and have yet to meet, sending them on a luxury holiday to meet up for the first time and see if their relationship works as well 'in the flesh' as it does over the phone.

The show will give the couples "everything they could possibly need for the perfect start... A Love Island backdrop, stunning weather, good food and ultimately the date of a lifetime," a source told The Sun.

"Online dating has soared in the past year during lockdown. With the world slowly opening up, these internet lovers can no longer hide behind their screens and will have to meet their match in the flesh.

"Viewers will be able to follow these couples as they discover if they really have met The One, or whether it's been a waste of time and they're not who they were cracked up to be."

Meanwhile, we're all are gearing up for the start of Love Island 2021, which begins on Monday 28th June. Fans probably couldn't be more excited about the return of the much-loved series, after almost a whole two years gap since the last summer Love Island, as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. We're so excited we're currently knee deep in contestant rumours and ordering personalised water bottles.

However, this wouldn't be the first dating show to rival Love Island. Netflix's Too Hot To Handle also proved a big hit when it first aired last year, with the second series set to land later this month.

It really is the age of the dating show isn't it? (Not that we're complaining).
