BBC Radio 1 presenter Clara Amfo is stepping down from hosting Future Sounds to front new projects.

According to the BBC, Amfo, who has hosted BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds programme since 2021, is leaving the role in order to focus on a new BBC Sounds show and some major artists specials for the network over the next year.

Taking over from Amfo to host the show, which is described as "the UK's most influential new music show", is Jack Saunders, who is set to start on April 15 next year.

Amfo, who has interviewed the likes of Doja Cat, Elton John and Paul McCartney, is set to launch her new BBC Sounds Music Show in the new year.

Amfo said: "I'm so proud of the work I've been able to do on every show, whether it's been from the 8th floor, a city in the UK or a pop star's house across the pond! I’m grateful to have had the ears of the listeners who have consistently shown up for me.

"I’m enamoured by everyone I’ve had the privilege of working alongside for each and every broadcast. I’m energised and excited for my next chapter as part of the network and beyond!"

Saunders added: "All I’ve ever wanted to do is host this show on Radio 1 and all my dreams have become a reality. I can’t wait to champion new music and be the voice for a new generation of artists."

Taking to Instagram following the news, Amfo opened up about her decision to say goodbye to the show alongside a picture of herself in the studio.

"The face of a woman trying to keep a secret/make big decisions, whew!," she captioned the post before thanking all of her listeners, the production teams, and "the incredible artists" who appeared on the show.
