Two Doors Down series seven has officially started filming - and it will see Doon Mackichan return as Cathy.

The character was absent from series six of the sitcom after she fled Glasgow for a new life in Egypt, leaving her husband Colin devastated. The neighbours rallied round to support Colin at his lowest, but now they face the prospect of welcoming Cathy back into the community.

In a new still from the upcoming series, which will air on BBC One later this year, a nonchalant looking Cathy is back home with, of course, her vape and a glass of wine in hand.

"I have missed the Two Doors Down family very much, so it's a genuine delight to see Cathy bring her unique brand of community spirit back to Latimer Crescent. Beth: get a bottle open," Mackichan said of her return.

Co-creators Gregor Sharp and Simon Carlyle added: "Doon is one of the UK's very best comic actors, so we're thrilled to bits that she's returned to pick up Cathy's vape and rejoin the rest of our brilliant cast."

Steven Canny, executive producer for BBC Studios, said: "It's a total pleasure to welcome Doon back to the family. We've been making Two Doors Down for a decade and couldn't be happier that Cathy has come home again."

The rest of the sitcom's regular cast will also return for series seven, including Jonathan Watson as Colin, Arabella Weir as Beth, Alex Norton as Eric, Elaine C Smith as Christine, Jamie Quinn as Ian, Kieran Hodgson as Gordon, Joy McAvoy as Michelle, and Graeme Stevely as Alan.

Two Doors Down series seven will air on BBC One later this year. All previous series of Two Doors Down are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
