Tonight marked the first episode of BBC's new game show The Wall, hosted by the one and only Danny Dyer.

And while the top geezer did a stand-up job of holding his own on the British version of the US show, audiences couldn't help but pick apart the pet name he'd chosen for tonight's (October 12) contestants.

Sisters Louise and Helen from Leeds were the lucky chosen ones to join Dyer for the chance to win the prize of a lifetime. And while many people had high hopes for Dyer's cockney charm shining through, unfortunately his use of the term "baby" for the sisters – as well as voice star Angela Ripon – had audiences cringing with embarrassment.

And yes, of course they expressed their opinions on social media:

The show itself sees participants split into two groups – one who answers knowledge-based questions and another who drop balls down a massive 40ft wall in the hopes of winning a huge cash prize.

Combining quiz questions with arcade-style activities, The Wall is a solid combo of smarts and pure luck.

Although viewers watching at home didn't quite agree, there were a few who enjoyed seeing the EastEnders star giving it his all in a totally different type of TV gig:

See? Ya win some, ya lose some – ain't that right, Danny boy?

Speaking about his chance to host, Danny said: "I'd never had a desire to host a game show before I saw this game. I couldn't turn down the opportunity to help win the public some serious life-changing readies. I love it."

The Wall airs on BBC One.
