A new trailer has been released, giving us a new look into Olivia Colman’s turn as Miss Havisham in BBC’s adaptation of Great Expectations.

The tale, which has been created by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight and is an adaptation of the classic novel by Charles Dickens, chronicles the coming-of-age story of an orphan called Pip (Fionn Whitehead), and will be told in the form of a six-part limited series for BBC and FX.

Colman’s Miss Havisham is a wealthy and eccentric spinster who has worn her wedding dress every day since the man she was supposed to marry left her hanging at the altar.

Now, she has taken Pip on as a companion for her and her adopted daughter Estella (Shalom Brune-Franklin), but because she hates all men, encourages Estella to torment them as well, including Pip – who loves Estella.

In the trailer, we hear Miss Havisham tell Pip: "When I was young, I was blinded by love. Now look at what remains of me."

Later on in the trailer, we see her asking Estella to break Pip’s heart.

Estella's voice is heard saying: "What she taught me was how to be her weapon of revenge, to be used against all men."

Alongside Colman, Whitehead and Brune-Franklin, the series also stars Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows), Ashley Thomas (Top Boy), Rudi Dharmalingam (The Lazarus Project), Johnny Harris (This is England '86), Hayley Squires (The Essex Serpent), Owen McDonnell (Killing Eve) and Trystan Gravelle (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) in supporting roles.

Great Expectations will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this spring.
