New BBQ chain opens in Burlington County on Route 541

WESTAMPTON – An international barbeque chain has opened its first location in Burlington County and third in South Jersey.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, which has over 500 locations worldwide, opened at 1858 Burlington Mount Holly Road (or Route 541) where a Verizon Wireless store, among other things, once was.

The location is across the street from Westampton Diner and next door to Cool Breeze Frozen Treats and Eats along a busy strip of the highway which has multiple restaurants, stores, shops and other businesses. The location has a Mount Holly mailing address but is technically in Westampton Township.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has hundreds of locations in more than 44 states in the U.S., including 148 in Texas, 55 in California and 52 in Florida. In the Northeast, it has five in New Jersey, 17 in New York, 11 in Pennsylvania, two in Delaware and two in Connecticut. It has international locations in Singapore, Japan, Pakistan and UAE.

In South Jersey, the chain also has locations in Egg Harbor Township and Washington Township. Elizabeth, Union County, and Manchester Township, Ocean County, are its two other New Jersey locations.

Jay Patel is the franchisee at the new Burlington County location. The chain, which began franchising about 30 years ago, was founded by the Dickey family in Dallas, Texas in 1941 and says it is “smoked low and slow with real hickory wood” at every location, every day.

Dickey's Barbecue Pit family recipes are passed down

Their Facebook page says their signature meats are smoked overnight every night in every Dickey's location. Their home-style sides are all family recipes passed down through generations.

A menu offers pit-smoked wings, signature pit-smoked meats, loaded baked potatoes, sandwiches such as brisket sandwiches, pulled pork, sausage sandwiches, chicken breast and more. Side offerings include hand-cut fries, mac and cheese, cabbage slaw, potato salad, green beans with bacon, barbecue beans, crispy fried okra and loaded baked potato casserole.
