BBQ Cookoff returning to Broadway festival in April

Jan. 24—BROADWAY — An old tradition that was scrapped during the coronavirus pandemic is returning to the Broadway Our Way festival in April.

It's the BBQ Cookoff that will pit 10 teams against each other to see whose recipe is deemed to be the best, according to Teresa Kelly, a town commissioner and festival committee member.

"We always had it, but the last couple of years we did not," Kelly said. "It started in Covid, and we really struggled the year before to get enough cookers. We decided we would try to see if we could bring it back this year."

Ten teams will be competing, but eight of the slots were filled as of Monday, Kelly said.

The cook-off is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. and will the gap between the time vendor booths close and the traditional outdoor dance starts.

The winner will be determined by judging, but festivalgoers will have an opportunity to cast ballots for a People's Choice award, Kelly said.

The site for the cookoff has yet to be chosen, she said.

The festival is scheduled April 20 and will include vendor booths and musical performances from regional bands.
