BBQ at former Perkins, mid-summer specials, cocktails, fundraisers fill Erie's menus

Underdog BBQ is now working out of a food truck on the property of the former Perkins at 2714 W. Eighth St., serving daily from 11 a.m. until they're sold out, according to their Facebook page. They're planning to move into the building after renovations, and are offering up videos on their progress at youtu.be/xSG9cpvWr4A.

Felines and Wines at the zoo

Friday night at the Erie Zoo, according to Facebook, seven local wineries will appear at Felines and Wines, an adults-only (21 and older) fundraiser. It runs from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring wine tastings, exclusive big cat training demonstrations, local live music, and more. Tickets are $30 to $50 and are only available online at eriezoo.org/events/felines-wines-2022 or bit.ly/winesatthezoo.

New York Lunch temporarily closed

New York Lunch, 922 East Ave., is closed until Aug. 23 for staff vacations and maintenance, according to a Facebook post. You can still pick up their Greek sauce at Gordon's Butcher & Market, 4815 Peach St. For more information, visit facebook.com/NYLEastAve.

Benefiting Ukraine

Red Letter Hospitality, which owns The Cork 1794, Molly Brannigans and The Skunk & Goat Tavern, is working with Logistics Plus Inc. for Ukraine Week, according to facebook.com/MollyBrannigans. Through Friday, visit any Red Letter Hospitality restaurant for lunch or dinner, and 5% of total sales will be donated to the people of Ukraine in need. Each location will offer traditional Ukrainian cuisine and cocktails. And a Ukrainian band will play at The Cork this Thursday. Make reservations at mollybrannigans.com/reservations.

New services, menu items

Erie Food Co-op, at 1341 W. 26th St. and 34 N. Park Row, is now offering pre-made meals from Dinner Is Served By "Lisa" Personal Chef & Catering Services, according to facebook.com/eriefoodcoop. The meals are available at both Co-op locations.

Andora's Bubble Tea, 516 State St., has some new gorgeous drinks to share for summer, according to their Facebook page. They're all lemonades, including Cotton Candy Bubbleade, Andora's Pink Bubbleade and the Bubbleade Refresher. The pink one has guava flavor and the Refresher includes cucumber and your choice of fruity flavor.

If you're looking for an excuse to take your family to a brewery, clear your Thursdays. That's the day Beechwood Inn's Hardwood Grille, 4102 West Lake Road, offers $3 kids meals, including grilled cheese, perch, Smith's hot dogs, chicken tenders, kids' burgers or kids' pizza. This might not go over with everyone, but I'm dying to try it: Buffalo Chicken Tacos Grilled Birria Style at Bro Man's Sammiches, Birria & Burgers, 8228 Peach St., as advertised on Facebook.

According to its Facebook page, Brick House coffee shop, 3741 W. 26th St., is featuring Italian sodas which contain club soda, cream, any flavor shot and a whipped cream topping, blended or over ice. Fruity options include banana, blue raspberry, cherry, coconut, lemon, lime, orange, pineapple, raspberry and strawberry. Other flavors are also available.

Brews, wine, spirits and specials

Black Monk Brewery, 3721 W. 12th St., has a new beer out, BBA Dubbel Vision, a Belgian Dubbel aged 12 months in Maker's Mark barrel according to its Facebook page. It boasts a 7.5 percent alcohol content, so pace yourself. Better yet, just nurse one and appreciate all the flavor notes they worked so hard to get in there.

Cloud 9, 25 E. 10th St., has planned an end-of-summer patio seafood boil for Wednesday, 5 to 9 p.m., according to Facebook page at bit.ly/cloud9specials. $39.95 a person for peel-and-eat shrimp, clams, mussels, andouille sausage, corn on the cob and red skin potatoes with a house salad. Cost is $39.95 plus tax & gratuity. Reserve a table by calling 814-870-9007 or book online at bit.ly/3zDkDbZ. A $10 deposit is required to book a reservation.

Courtyard Winery, 10021 W. Main Road North East, is having a special on bruschetta Friday, Saturday and Sunday at its North East location, according to its Facebook page. The bruschetta is made with local tomatoes, basil, garlic and tossed with olive oil and red wine vinegar served on locally made French bread. Hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sweltering summer days are for cold cocktails at Five & 20 Spirits and Brewing, 8398 W. Main Road, Westfield, New York. The Pineapple Vanilla Bean Mojito and other summer features are priced from $5.20 from 5-8 p.m. on Fridays.
