BBQ Restaurant Permanently Closes In Stamford

STAMFORD, CT — Dinosaur Bar-B-Que has closed its Stamford location after initially shutting down in the spring due to the coronavirus. In an email sent to Patch this week, a spokesperson for the restaurant confirmed the Canal Street eatery permanently closed in April.

The closure came weeks after the restaurant chain shut down indoor dining for all its locations in response to the virus, also referred to as COVID-19, in mid-March. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"[The Stamford location] was a very large restaurant," the spokesperson said, "and when COVID-19 hit, it was no longer financially viable to keep it open."

The Stamford restaurant opened its doors in late 2012, occupying a refurbished factory that was once part of the old Yale Lock Company.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que has six locations in New York, as well as a Newark, N.J., location. The Stamford restaurant was the chain's only Connecticut location.

According to their website, the restaurant chain began life in 1983 as a mobile concession stand. The chain's first restaurant opened in downtown Syracuse, N.Y., in 1988.

Each location's large menu offers a number of barbecue favorites, including ribs, pulled pork, wings and a variety of sauces to coat each dish with.
