BCC: Veterans Town Hall to create understating between veterans and civilians on Oct. 11

NEW BEDFORD — Bristol Community College will be hosting a Veterans Town Hall in October. This community event will allow those in attendance to hear real-life stories from local Veterans who have served our country. The idea behind Veteran Town Halls is to increase communication and understanding between veterans and civilians in their communities

“Veterans sharing their stories is like a strong thread that weaves our community closer together. It's not just for veterans; it's for everyone in our community," said Peter O'Brien, Retired Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant and DOD SkillBridge Intern, Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center, Bristol Community College in a press release. “When veterans talk about their experiences, it helps all of us understand what they went through, the things they gave up, and the values they hold dear.”

When is the Veterans Town Hall?

All community members are encouraged to attend the Veterans Town Hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the college’s New Bedford Campus, 800 Purchase St., New Bedford. The event is presented by the Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center and Student Veterans of America Chapter at Bristol Community College.

Who will be speaking at the event?

You will hear from different generations of Veterans as they share their experiences and what it was like to serve their country. Veterans who served in any capacity are invited to stand and speak for up to ten minutes about their time in the military. The event is non-political and there will be no question-and-answer period. Attendees and non-veterans are encouraged to listen and learn about what it was like to serve this nation.

“We want veterans and non-veterans to share a space and experience together,” said Denny Cosmo, Director, Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center, Bristol Community College in the release. “Building community and understanding is an essential part of reintegrating into society after military service. This is a great chance to do just that.”
