BCHS seeking public's help after dead dog found abused, placed in trash bag in Aliquippa

ALIQUIPPA ― Investigators from the Beaver County Humane Society are asking for the public's help in finding the owner of a deceased dog found in the city.

In a release from the organization, humane society investigators said they are seeking the public's help in finding the owners of a male Yorkshire Terrier that was found beaten to death and sealed inside a black trash bag. Officers discovered the dead animal on the corner of Monaca Road and Greet Street, near Stevie's Dairy Mart, in early January.

“After a mandatory 48-hour waiting period, we sent the dog for a post-mortem medical evaluation which determined he died from blunt force trauma to the chest and was covered in bruises,” said Samantha Scobie, a humane society police officer at BCHS. “We’re looking for any information that may lead us to whoever is responsible.”

Officers said an Aliquippa resident was walking their dogs when their pets showed interest in the bag where they discovered the dog with long, tan fur that was wearing a blue color without tags. The dog had also been wrapped in a black-and-white-patterned blanket, which was placed over a tan dog bed.

Medical examiners determined the approximately 4-year-old dog was in good health before its death. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the chest, with bruising also observed at various other places around the animal's body.

Investigators for the Beaver County Humane Society say that the deceased dog was wrapped in this blanket and left in a trash bag in Aliquippa. Anyone with information on the potential owner of the pet is asked to call the Humane Investigations department.
