KEY ACTION Two bids were opened for the jail fire alarm system project with Brad Adams of VSWC Architects at the meeting to explain the process. The bids were submitted by BCU Electric ($177,137) and North Bay Construction ($233,787). The estimate previously was set at $225,000.

DISCUSSION: “The project is simply a fire alarm replacement at the county jail,” Adams said. “The building is well over 20 years old and has had some systematic issues with the fire alarm system. It is in need of upgrading and replacement.”

Adams said the start date for the project is Aug. 7 with an anticipated completion date of Dec. 22.

Other action at the Ashland Commissioners meeting

  • Accepted donations to the County Dog Shelter of $10,202 in checks and cash.

  • Heard a second quarter investment report from Treasurer Angie McQuillen.

  • Solid District Waste coordinator Jim Skora presented detailed information on the Farm Tire Event scheduled for Aug. 29 at the fairgrounds.

Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Commissioner’s Conference Room on the second floor of the County Office Building. The meetings are open to the public. They are livestreamed on the Ashland, OH County Government Facebook page.
