Monday meeting

KEY ACTION: Approved the sale of two properties owned by the village.

DISCUSSION: Scott Elliott of Beach City purchased 2½ acres on Manchester Avenue at a cost of $45,550. There were seven sealed bids for the property. Nick Burkett of Beach City purchased the property at 303 E. Main St. for $33,600.01. There were eight sealed bids for that property. Both bids accepted were the highest bids.

In another matter, council approved a quote of $10,000 from Kelly Heating and Cooling of New Philadelphia to install heating, ventilation and air conditioning in the fiscal officer’s office, lunch room and to protect records stored upstairs.

OTHER ACTION

  • Approved a $500 donation to the Fairless Food Cupboard to be used for the holidays.

  • Learned an individual contacted the state because council awarded a $50 gift certificate for a local supermarket to village employees last Christmas. Village Solicitor Stephan Babik will research the complaint.

  • Authorized Babik to draw up an ordinance increasing rates for burial lots in Southlawn Cemetery.

  • Heard from Village Administrator Jim Spivey that a meeting was held with the engineer about a sewer project. Spivey said the plan is to return to the original concept to make improvements and apply for grants. He said the goal is to do as much as possible with zero expense to the residents.

  • Agreed to move forward with Independent Energy Consultants for natural gas aggregation for the village.

  • Approved $5,000 to demolish a mobile home and garage at 225 Sixth Ave. NW. The village will sell the property.

  • Agreed to hold a utilities committee meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 in village hall to discuss Hillview Mobile Home Park, located south of Brewster, to discuss infrastructure. The village supplies electricity to the park.

  • Heard fire department members are meeting with Burgess Ambulance of Loudonville at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the fire station to draw up final specifications for a new ambulance. Council members were invited to attend the meeting.

  • The Community Improvement Corporation will show "The Wizard of Oz" at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the community park.

  • The fire department will host a chicken barbecue at 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at the fire station. Cost is $12. The meal includes one-half chicken, baked beans, applesauce, roll and dessert. Carryout is available.

  • Trick-or-treat will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Those participating should turn on a porch light and children should be accompanied by an adult.
