KEY ACTION: Village Administrator Jim Spivey will be posting a job opening for a secretary.

DISCUSSION: Plans are to hire someone to serve as secretary to the village administrator and assistant to the village clerk.

In another matter, council heard the first readings of two ordinances. The first to sell real estate at 312 Third Street and a second ordinance to sell four vehicles.

OTHER ACTION:

  • Heard the Ohio Water Development Authority will finance the sewer loan at 0.5%. The transaction should be completed by Aug. 25.

  • Learned Police Chief Curt Gipe plans to apply for a grant to hire a full-time police officer.

  • Agreed to remove the remainder of a mobile home on Sixth Street. The property owner did not complete the job.

  • Approved $7,500 to purchase 1,000 feet of new hose for firetrucks.

  • Approved a request to hold a Trunk or Treat event in October at community park. The CIC will be sponsoring the event.

FOR YOUR INFO:

  • Firefighters will hold a chicken barbecue at 3 p.m. Aug. 6 at the fire station. Cost is $10 for half a chicken, baked beans, applesauce, roll and dessert.

  • Melissa Spriggs, Community Improvement Corporation president, told council a bulletin board will be erected at the park pavilion. Kelly Turney, a new resident, will be providing materials for a basketball backboard and nets. Turney also suggested holding a food truck day event.

  • The 11th annual Beach City 5K race will be 9 a.m. Sept. 17. Registration forms are available at Village hall, the post office and online. Volunteers are needed to help with the race.
