Beach City police exploring adding impound lot

KEY ACTION: Police Chief Curt Gipe is exploring the possibility of constructing a small impound lot for vehicles to be stored.
DISCUSSION: Gipe is gathering additional information and not sure if it would be feasible to have an impound lot.
In another matter, Solicitor Stephan Babik told council he has accepted a position as a magistrate in the 5th District Court of Appeals in Canton. He said if a case comes from the village to that court, the village will need to appoint another attorney to handle it. Babik will remain as the Beach City solicitor.
OTHER ACTION:
Held the second reading of an ordinance to move forward with annexing a new section of South Lawn Cemetery. The land was donated to the village.
Adopted a resolution to contract with Ohio Billing for the fire department.
Held the second reading of a resolution to contract with the Red Center for fire and police calls.
Held the second reading of an ordinance to increase the salary of Rick Savage, cemetery sexton, from $2,000 to $2,995 per year. Savage is also the street superintendent.
Learned Gipe is gathering information to install a GPS in the police cruisers that would be helpful to the Red Center.
Heard the title was acquired for the vacant mobile home located in the village. It can be demolished.

The utility committee will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 17 in Village Hall. The finance committee will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 in Village Hall.
